The Nina Miller Collection has its origins in the late 1970s, when Nina Miller acquired several unique ceramic works by Pablo Picasso for her family home. These early acquisitions marked the beginning of what would develop over the following decades into a significant private collection, built around a sustained appreciation of artistic innovation, craftsmanship and cultural significance.

Picasso’s ceramics remain at the heart of the collection, encompassing both unique works and editioned pieces. The ceramics are complemented by a rich body of related material, including original exhibition posters designed by Picasso, lithographs and drawings, photographs of the artist at work, and other works documenting and illuminating his engagement with ceramics.

In 2014, a selection of works from the collection was presented at the University Museum and Art Gallery of the University of Hong Kong. Ksenia Likhacheva was a co-curator of the exhibition, working alongside Dr Alma Mikulinsky, an art historian and Picasso specialist. The exhibition explored the extraordinary breadth of Picasso’s ceramic practice, its distinctive iconography and its relationship to the artist’s wider oeuvre. The accompanying catalogue, Picasso Ceramics: Objects from the Nina Miller Collection, was published by the University of Hong Kong Press.

Since its beginnings, the collection has continued to evolve beyond its original focus on Picasso’s ceramics. Today, it encompasses a broader range of fine and decorative art, including design, contemporary art and other works selected for their artistic quality, cultural relevance and distinctive character.

The collection continues to develop through considered acquisitions, research and scholarship. Each work is carefully sourced, documented, preserved and researched, with the collection drawing on the expertise of specialists across different areas of the art world.

Today, the Nina Miller Collection remains a dynamic and evolving collection, rooted in its founder’s original passion for Picasso while embracing a wider and continually developing vision of fine, decorative and contemporary art.
